Leaving tonight - SPOT tracking page

That is too bad, part of the reason I picked up a paddle in the first place was to find better fishing. I also think there is nothing wrong with being a vegetarian, just not for me.

Guessing Alan is playing with us again . Posted from out in the middle of the lake again. Plus he headed back North.
Maybe he changed his mind about coming back to civilization ? Ha !

Alan is on a long point, possibly and Esker in the middle of that section of the Thlewiaza. He certainly has spent many days just sitting, but we have had a lot of windy days of late so he could just be wind bound again. He has a couple of long days of portaging coming up to get back onto the Cochrane River which will take him back to Wollaston Lake and where he parked 29 days ago.

Thanks for the insight Karin !
I'm going to have a lot questions for that boy when he gets back !

So Roy, next trip you'll have to insist he take a Sat phone so you can call him to remind him to check in daily. He may have gotten into camp really late or did a night run to avoid wind or what not. I'm sure by now Sadie is missing her chicken friends and wonders when the heck they are getting back to the car.

In a few days night time temperatures are going to drop into the mid to low 30's F. He could see snow unless he starts heading south.

I've been using the Delorme Inreach Sat texter all summer. It's pretty cool, takes only slightly longer than the spot and you can send personal messages.....that would be a good thing for Alan.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the winds are calm when Alan gets back on Wollaston. Or, even better, a gentle tailwind he can sail home on.

It looks like he has a fairly light East wind today, so he can hug the East shoreline and perhaps put some miles on. Good thing considering we are having winds 30 mph gusting to 40 mph this weekend. Tropical Storm caused perhaps.

He is in for some rain though.

Looks like Alan is dealing with wet and windy conditions but is pretty close to the end of this adventure. Only 2-3 portages left but plenty of water to cover still.

I could only track him through Manitoba since that is the limit of my Memory Map Topo's, but for those who might like to see what that looked like, I made up maps to show the overall distance and sections to give better details. In total, inside Manitoba to his camp in Nunavut he paddled and portaged 192.2 Km (119.42 miles) One Way! He backtracked the same route on his way out.

Karin, can you post wind speed and direction when he gets back near Wollaston? I am hoping Alan is graced with favorable sailing winds en route back down lake at the conclusion of his trip. The Zephyr gods owe him that after starting off windbound.

Thanks for posting the map tracks; those have helped with an overview of Alan’s route and daily progress.

I am already eagerly awaiting a trip report and review of the Bloodvein II.

34.jpg Update on Alan's travels. Certainly appreciate the input from those of you familiar with the area. And the weather reports. Attached is a Google Earth map showing his travels - or lack thereof (-:

Thanks Karin (and Steve). I’ll be watching for a cooperative tailwind with fingers crossed when Alan get to Wollaston.

On a separate weather related note, the last few days in-land in the inland mid-Atlantic region have been summer heaven. There is nothing like an off-shore tropical storm to sweep cool dry air down from the north. Apologies to folks on the storm surge coast, but dang it has been delightfully dry and cool 100 mile inland.

Although we could use a deluge for water levels I do love that cool, dry part of the rotation.

Not familiar at all about where Alan is, but by the map, he has one set of rapids left. Big Stone. Wondering if it is runnable ? Otherwise it's paddle time from there on out.
