Not my photo but I like it.
Shoulda finished up the yardwork but it was too nice. First outing this month, second of the year.
My first thought was "that looks like makoros in the Okavango" , then saw the ID. Wonderful place!

Yes, 3 years ago. Even got to pole a makoro--wonderful experience. My daughter trying her hand (as a couple of hippos watched from a distance--and her father!).
Jealous! Okavango is high on my bucket list.

What's on the outside? Are those some kind of metallic plates or are they rubber?

Look at satellite maps and you may see the shadow it casts.
Must be part of a turbine.
Copper, with a fine patina. The inner is concrete. This must have part of a turbine for an area dam.
How in the world was this placed here? The upstream dams are storage dams other than Chesuncook’s Ripogenus Dam. Certainly a relic of past industrial times.
I was able to sneak out this morning for a pleasant paddle on a local reservoir and its feeder stream.
