Not boring at all. But you could get some more traditional ballast for your bow than that big water jug.

I think I’ve found the perfect ballast material. A canvass duffle filled with fire wood. It looks good, plus you can burn it if needed or wanted.

With the temperatures in the mid-30s, brilliant sunshine, and minimal wind, my two friends and I enjoyed a wonderful New Year's Day paddle on ice-free Tully Lake in north-central Massachusetts. I was in my Northwind Solo, while one friend was in his Hornbeck, and the other was in his home-built cedar stripper. It was a great start to the New Year.

Boring little lake, but pretty and close by. It you zoom in there's a beaver (just his head and wake) and a mama duck with ducklings.

Well....
I was looking for a more traditional ballast...

(spruce twigs are from driftwood, no living tree was harmed)

...the swan showed interest but didn't want to join in...

...the water jug camouflaged by an used coffee bag...


Todays paddle on the lake of Thoune. It was kind of cold, air temperature -2.5 C / 27.5 F.

My last paddle was at those temps. The only things that weren’t warm were my thighs.
