Trip Report: Kander River Delta, Switzerland

For lack of any better place to put a Swiss Trip Report, I will post a few photos here instead of a full report. Also, they may not be in order because I am tired and we are going out again tomorrow.

Here follows the Expedition to the Delta of the Kander River:

1. There are mute swans in Switzerland. Aslowhand says they are not native, but they are tolerated. I adore them and it has been one of my life's dreams to see a wild swan. I thought I was going to have to travel to the Arctic, but here they are. They do not, however, sit still for pictures. Erica

3. Searching for something. Let me point out that I am wearing two sets of long underwear and tops, pants, shirts, jackets, etc. It is cold in Switzerland's spring. However, most of you in the north, will not have a problem. Aslowhand

4. I think this is another morning photo. Must be Aslowhand as my iphone battery died.

5. Stealth camp by the stony beach. Camping here is either legal or not legal depending on how one interprets conflicting regulations. Aslowhand

We launched from Kanu Klub Thun put-in. I also had a borrowed life jacket from them. It is the most comfortable and secure life jacket I've ever worn, but it can only be used paddling tandem because I cannot get the belts and buckles fastened or unfastened without assistance. There are no zippers anywhere. You have to pull it on over your head.


How clear the water is here.


One of the few places where our practices vary: cooking. This is a u-shaped fire pit with a chimney rock at the back. He credits Hoop_ with information on this set up and it works well. Some of you know Hoop_. Starting the fire also ignited my inner pyromaniac, which may be why I don't use fire most of the time.


More mountains. There are mountains everywhere. Beautiful mountains. Look up and there are more mountains. Look right, look left, more mountains. There is no shortage of mountains here. And they are all outstanding and beautiful. Pictures are nothing like the real thing.
