Canoecopia 2025

I attended this presentation this afternoon. It was very well attended. Well prepared and presented. I applaud the effort to counter racism.
We, uh, came away with different experiences. Probably because I reject the underlying premise, which necessarily makes the rest of the presentation somewhat moot. I did agree with the idea that cultural norms are sometimes antithetical to choosing to participate in certain activities. The reasons for such cultural divergence are debatable, I reckon.

Gotta say though, if average attendee melanin content was the arbitrator of what events are and are not racist, Canoecopia is the most racist event I've ever attended. And I go to more than a few "bastions of racism" like gun shows and hunting symposiums.

Hopefully next years I’ll be able to make it and leave early Sunday. Bummed I missed a friends/acquaintance’s talk on Friday but that’s alright. Looked like a good time!

Anybody know if it’s frowned upon to sleep in a camper van?

Nope, nothing specific. General thoughts would be good. Maybe a rundown on what the reps touted as selling points? Plans to extend to other models?

As I told the reps, I'm glad Wenonah is bringing some newer tech to their boats.

Their colors look nice, and have good saturation/hue. The interior finish on the Innegra is quite smooth, which will help with cleaning and hinder traction.

The darker skin really showed the rivet pinch of the aluminum gunnels. The top looked quite wavy compared to a Swift or Novacraft. That won't impact utility, but we are talking about hulls half the price of a decent used car... (side rant disabled)

The reps seemed to stress the stiffness to weight improvement of the new layups, and the layperson could easily test this by pressing inward near the shear line. Not really scientific, but a quick demonstration point.

For the most part, a few pounds will be saved on the larger models and Wenonah will have some color options with which to catch up to other offerings in the marketplace.

Seeing an Encounter in person was quite cool, not sure why outfitters keep telling me "you don't want to rent that", especially when they insisted I take a Basswood Solo instead. Maybe a Solo Plus, but a BS? I'm running a close to 400lb load here...

Anyway, it was good to see them offering something other than yellow, and I think it will be a hit with Wenonah customers.

I agree with what @Tryin’ said above, and will add that the rep I talked to stressed the new infusion/innegra was really about maintaining the light weights they are known, for but with more color availability. I asked if there were plans to use innegra for more durability anywhere and they said no, they feel T-formex covers that niche for them so no need for something like an IXP layup as well. The colors did look very nice I thought and I agree the insides appeared (and felt) very well finished.

interesting Hornbeck still feels their kevlar is the most durable because it flexes whereas the other skins are stuffed and more brittle. I think how much my kevlar Souris Rivers have done fine banging into rocks and am a believer.

I tend to agree with this. When you look at the track record of Kevlar over the decades there isn't much to take issue with.
