River and Lake Canoe Discussion and Input

Have you checked out the Swift P14? It’s pretty nimble for the streams I’ve used it on. Better stability than comparable NS boats. Doesn’t feel wide. I had a NC P15 tandem that did nothing really well, but IXP is tough, which it needed to be on small rocky streams.

Honestly - I think I would like any of these 14' Prospectors a lot. I was hoping that NC would be the one to limit their 14' to 30" wide, but my disappointment over that miss (IMO) colors my comment.

My more reasoned opinion is that all three makers know their market and know what they're doing with canoe design. I would, without hesitation, grab a deal on any one of them in a lightweight expedition layup that came my way on the used market at a reasonable price.

The longer I do this, the less significance I put on minor differences between similar hull shapes in river oriented canoes. If I was ordering a new boat for river trips, I'd be inclined to prioritize durability, weight, and price - in that order - ahead of one or two inches of width difference.
