I see Savage River offers this as a layup option. Anybody know anything about other than the website Blerb? Turtle

I don't really know anything about it. I believe it's supposed to be a stiffer and lighter form of carbon. I don't know if it's just the weave that's different or something else. ZRE has been offering it on their paddles for a few years too.

What Alan said. It's not a layup it's a brand of carbon fiber fabric. The weave is different because the bundles of fibers are flat strips not round, like tape vs a rope. So, the fibers lie straighter and there's less kinking when they're woven into fabric. When composites fail it usually starts at a point where the fibers cross over in a weave. Less crossovers makes for stronger fabric, but doesn't drape as well. Stitched, nonwoven double or triple layer is usually the strongest fabric since there are no crossing threads.

I have a 15' Swift with this. 20% lighter and 20% stronger than the older CF is what I heard. I really like the light weight part of that and I have yet to put a hole in mine from any of my rock bashing. It works! I am a huge fan of the light and strong part.
