Took a trip down the Missouri river a week or so ago. Put in at the Coal Banks landing and took out at the Kipp Rec area, a little over 100 miles. Camped at 5 different spots (stayed 2 nights in one spot), caught a few fish, did a bunch of hiking and had a great time. The weather was great except for a couple of storms that blew through. The following link is a video one of the other guys made, I will attach a bunch of photos when I figure out how to shrink them in size to fit.

The mud. Always the mud. ! Looks like there was a near spill getting in?

We had 10 folks and 6 canoes so we had plenty of room for all the water we had to take and gear. Everyone had a chair and one guy brought a roll up table. With no portages also got to bring all the cast iron! I and another guy soloed in short (14.5') Merrimack Tennessean tandoms.

Oh yeah, only a few geese, lot's of pelicans, eagles everywhere and a bunch of big horn sheep. Never came close to dumping but getting stuck in the mud was a daily occurrence.

Cool video. I'm reading right now a biography on Lewis and Clark, and in the book they are roughly right where you guys were. And I've never seen that terrain before, so that was pretty neat.

Looks like you guys had a good time. The river was up, so you got through pretty quickly compared to my typical late season trip. Good to see you drinking the local beer too! I was on the Upper upper Missouri that same weekend, paddled from Three Forks to Townsend.

Enjoyed the vid, as well as recognized a few faces ! Especially the guy who sold me an AWESOME paddle !
No portages ? You can't beat that !

Are permits required ?

Thanks for sharing !

Jim

Permits no. But we did register at Ft Benton as we wanted to get guidebooks for the river which were something like four bucks each. The books explained the history and geology and were useful in finding old homesteads

They are jut starting to implement daily fees and I think permits are not far behind. By next summer I'm pretty sure you will have to go to recreaction.gov to get one.

Thanks for the heads up. I take it that you still are required to bring a toilet?
Aka five gallon pail wag bags seat
This is a trip I'd like to like more than I did
Goose poop everywhere and a million breeding . Sex is incredibly noisy and an all day and night event
We went in mid May
