When I'm in my shop dubbing around I like to have a little background noise going on so I have a fairly nice radio setup. Like listening to NHPR since they still carry Click and Clack the Car Shop guys, get a few stations outta Boston for those moments it's good to hear a little upbeat stuff, yeah I do like some of the new stuff, I ain't dead yet! Sometimes the radio isn't even turned on, silence is good too. So, how many folks have some background noise going on in their shops?

Since most of my work is with hand tools and unplugged, I like silence, but I do listen to the radio or some music at time.

I almost always have the stereo on in the shop...those that look closely at my photos know that I only listen to WEQX out of Manchester, VT.
It is the largest, independently owned station in the country. Been listening to them for over 30 years. Always progressive, they're online too if anyone wants to listen to their stream.

We are so far in a hole here in the 'Hill Towns of Western Mass' it's hard to get a radio signal on the surface, never mind about in my basement workshop. Even now we see the sun for less then 7 hours.

stripperguy EQX is a great station, we can't get it here but it's one of may presets on the car radio.

I do have a stereo in the shop and music choice depends on my mood. Classic Rock and Country mostly. Also just leave it off and enjoy the silence, one benefit of living in the country is the lack of noise.

When driving I rarely turn the radio on, it is mostly a distraction these days. When travelling with Christy, a couple years ago going to G'Town and back, 2000km total, we never turned the radio on, we just talked. Funny how even after being together for 8 years we still have things to talk about.

The longer I go without background noise the less I can tolerate it. No stereo in the shop. No TV in the house. Even in the car I rarely listen to the radio. If I take a 3 day road trip I might listen to the radio for 1/2 a day and then it's likely to be public radio. More often than not I'll turn on the radio, scan the channels, and shut it back off. Can't stand listening to the annoying DJs and commercials. I think I'm prematurely aging.

I must be the weirdo here:confused:! When I start the truck or the jeep, the radio is on (usually classic rock). When I flip the light switch in the workroom, country starts to play. When I crawl in bed, if my wife is already asleep, it's either The Weather Channel or Time-Warner cable news. If she's still awake, it's whatever chic flic she has playing (she has tenitus and can't sleep without noise.)
