Important Question Here

We don't use a stove on trips and we don't portage much if at all.... this year we did a 17 day trip on the Wind River In the Peel watershed up here in the Yukon and we had to portage from the lake up and down to the creek that would bring us to the river, not a long portage(500 yards) and not on difficult terrain, but a bit of a climb and descent. Since I never leave w/o my wanigan( 46lbs + -) and the fire box(16lbs) I think portaging a cast iron griddle isn't a bad idea or that big of a deal!! In my opinion, if you like using it and it make your life better/easier, I would definitely bring one and I would try to cut somewhere else!! But of course we are not getting younger and we are not getting any stronger but I found over the years that I like more confort and ultra lite stuff isn't really for me, I find that it just doesn't last! So big tent, luxury kitchen box, chairs, table etc....

My stove must not be standard. A 20" griddle is too long for my 2 burner 425. I have the Lodge 20x10 and love it, but I can't use my wind screens. Alas, it may be a fools errand to keep searching. I may just suffer along with my bakers dozen of poor fitting griddles. I don't want to need to reinforce my foundation. I also have a non-stick job with a grease well, but nothing works like cast iron.

I expect your two-burner Coleman is “standard” size. With the wind screen “wings”, fastened open as far as possible there is 16” between the wings at the back, and even the 16 ½” Lodge griddle would work if you pulled it forward an inch (note that the burners themselves are actually a bit forward of center).

Looking at the wind screens; attached to the underside of the lid they affixed inset by an inch or so on each side, and I guess you could move them and reattach them as far out as possible for the lid to still close. Or build new wind screen wings with a bit of bend or angle to accommodate full width and depth.

It’s still not fitting a 20” wide griddle, unless you buy a 3-burner Coleman like DougD’s.

I'm 61 and my parents bought this the year before I was born! Still works, used it this past week up in Maine!

Whadda ya think the chances are my grandchildren will be saying that about my Jetboil in 2081?
