DIY Rodent-proof Food Bag

Apparently not. According to ursack rodent teeth are much sharper. It's probably a bit like puppy teeth that are incredibly sharp and seem to be able to chew through anything.

Good to know... I guess I should have look further into it before suggesting it lol!!

Guess if you put an Ursack inside one of these steel mesh sacks it would be both rodent and bear proof?

The Ursack need not be small. Ursack Major ( 15 liters ) just came out.
Mice and rodents can climb blue barrels. One was in mine in the Everglades. Fortunately he was found before I closed up the lid and ring

Bird feeder baffles ( cone shaped) work if the wide edge of the cone is directed at the squirrels approach. Its worked for us for 16 years.
There is an aluminum liner available to help foil rodents.

I still carry the barrel as the harness is top notch and comfortable.

YC, did your mouse climb up the barrel itself or climb up the harness to gain access? I usually take the harness off once in camp especially before stashing it somewhere. Figured animals could get a good grip on the harness straps it if it was still on.

It was actually a rat and I did not use the harness on that trip. It was in the Florida Everglades on a beach site. All animals down there save the alligator and python are agressive. Rats and raccoons are a big problem.
And never spray your gear with pepper spray.. That leaves an odor and an oil that attracts vermin or larger.

Well my medium Grubsack with zipper just arrived and what a nice piece of work. Very well made and should hold enough for a week. Also bought some 1/16 steel cable, put a loop on each end for a caribiner and tying to a tree. Can't wait for a little outing in two weeks. Thanks for the thread and url. Cheers
