Boat Design Stage to become a build

I like the narrow shear, forward of the paddler. It would seem a lot easier to switch sides, and plant the blade of the paddle close to the hull .

Just my observation, but would it benefit if the seat was a little further aft ?

The Wave wake looks good .

I'd like to try that hull out !

Thanks for updating this thread ! Love design .
These pics didn't have a seat in it. They were sitting on a backpack stuffed with clothes. He's added a seat and it goes further back. I may have a picture showing it.

Matt has made a few design changes to his hull based off my design and is currently racing in the Yukon River Quest. https://www.yukonriverquest.com/

444 miles in a canoe will give him lots of time to figure out his likes and dislikes. I have changed up the plans some already based on his previous feedback and I'm holding off on making any further design changes until I catch up with him after the race is over. I'm hoping to get some pictures of him racing in the Yukon to post.

I've been AWOL from this site for quite awhile so I thought I'd follow up on this project. Matt did build this boat and made a few modifications before it hit the water. What he found out is the boat just isn't stable enough and didn't race it in the Yukon race as intentionally planned. He paddled another of his boats and increased his finish time over previous times.

One of the initial design ideas was to have pulled in gunwales around the seating area to aid in long term comfort of paddling long hours and miles and keeping hands closer to the body without having to reach out as far in a wider gunwale boat. I owned a Landick2 at one point and never took any measurements off of it before selling so I didn't have anything to compare to what I designed. I've heard that the original Landick may have been the front half of a C1 racing canoe for the front and the back half was the front half of a C1 racing canoe turn backwards. I based my design off that premise not knowing how it would react. Through post build discussions, one of the things Matt and I believe happened by only using part of the C2 stations compared to the whole boat design is that they were too barrel shaped, or like the cross section of a coke can. They were very round which didn't lead to much initial stability. Shame on me for not paying close enough attention to that.

I heard from him about a week ago and he's paddled it a few times recently but ends up swimming a few times. While it was a fun attempt for me to design and 3d print, I'm sorry for Matt's sake that he invested time and money to build the boat and it didn't turn out well.

I just completed a new design that should have much better stability and still have good cruising speed. What good is a fast boat if you can't keep it upright. My 3D printer is running as I type as I just completed the new design last night and will start making plans to build my own boat from the developed plans this fall.
