Too much gear? That is just a hypothetical question, you are not really serious are you...???

The basic gear I need for camping and paddling is pretty light. Things don't get heavy until I start adding fishing gear, camera gear, a book, binoculars and that last stop a the bakery to ensure I don't run out of sweets.

I have more gear than an REI store and since I try to pack light, I'll always wonder why I didn't bring that little luxury item that I just had to have last spring! : )

I applied ultra light backpacking methodology to canoe camping when I started going further into the back country and encountering more portages. I quickly realized though that I can add a few luxury items and still be portage comfortably. Full size camp chair and a Peak 1 Lantern are my big splurges on a trip.
