The Tangerine Dream arrived early! (New Hemlock SRT)

Just stumbled upon this thread. Scary stuff. I'm not a serious whitewater person but I've run plenty of Class I like that. The idea of an entrapment after a hull collapse hadn't occurred to me as a kneeler.

Regarding a kickaway seat, Wenonah aluminum seat drops have the wood sitting on the metal (my Rx Morningstar has aluminum drops but the seats bolt onto the underside so gravity isn't a help there). I bought a used Wen off a whitewater guy and he had bolts an inch too long, with lock nuts at the very ends. This allowed the seat a lot of play, making it easier to lift the seat an inch to slide feet under it without it being fully loose. But in a collapsing hull that only buys you an inch, and longer bolts flapping around would be ungainly.

In the Wenonah, I imagine one could weld or expoy the bolts in upside down to the drops, so the nuts are on top. They could be secured for flatwater and cartopping and unscrewed for river trips, relying on your weight to keep them in place. One might even use wingnuts, tho they might snag clothing etc.

I might just stand and pole rapids, but that's not an option for SRTs and the like.

Most importantly, Joe, sorry for the loss of a beautiful boat, but very glad you made it out alive!
