Gorgeous. Is the stream paddleable?
Yes, it’s the Saint Croix Stream, coming out of Saint Croix Lake. It enters the Aroostook River just south of the town of Masardis, Maine. It has some white water but the Jack Mountain Bushcraft school takes their students down it, paddling, poling, and lining in solo loaded canoes.

Here’s the beautiful Aroostook River, seldom paddled also from what I hear.

The wife and I did a three night trip in Ontario last weekend and out of all the photos we took, this is one of my top ten favorites. This trip had the hardest portages I’ve done yet, each one very steep, rocky, overgrown and very muddy. We managed to gather a few new cringe worthy scratches, blisters, many bug bites, and burnt shoes. All things that added to the memories of this trip and a place that felt sacred and spiritual. We’re already planning another trip back, longer.

Combine that with a full week of hiking signs and posts out on South Manitou island equals a full weekend of sleep
