I am going to have a look at it today!! 1974 Chestnut freighter. The boat is fiberglassed over canvas( so done right)! I was wondering how much it would be worth?? No motor but with trailer!
Time and space is a problem for me to built one! I think I will wait and do a road trip back east in the next year or two and pick one up in Prévost a 22’ canot norwest, they are the best and really wellYou know, for a couple of thousand you could build one yourself.
There is a 22' freighter advertised at WCHA located in Haines,Ak. It comes with a trailer and custom cover. He's asking aboot 3100 Canadian.
I like that but you'd have to change your name to Canot-L'Orange. Comment dit-on, au revoir la panache?
The trailer is a bonus. You can always find an upgrade on a motor.
I've found several freighters here in Ontario (no Chestnuts) whilst online canoe shopping today but none as nice as that safety orange freighter (and no trailers).
And then of course you'd have to cover my gas to haul it up there (which would be an awesome autumn trip!!).
P.S. Why is fibre glass "done right"? Is it more durable than canvas? Less maintenance?
