I have some friends that are proud of the claw marks on their equipment. I am proud of the fact that my equipment has none.
I remember waking up one morning in Alaska at the foot of "The Golden Stairs" at Sheep Camp on the Chilkoot Trail. A guy told me that the morning before, a black bear had opened a nylon tent with his claws at 0900 in broad daylight and entered the tent where a lady was rolling up her sleeping bag. She was shaken but unharmed by the visitor. She had one granola bar in her pack, which was in the tent with her.
