Went for a ride on a nearby rail trail yesterday. The Lynn Valley Trail follows the Lynn River from the town of Simcoe through the lush farms and forests down to Port Dover. I had ample opportunity to check out the paddling conditions of this freshwater stream as we crossed over several pedestrian bridges on our way down the valley. It ought to be a pleasant few hours paddling and wading when the water is high enough, as it has been this year with all the rain we've been having. Arriving in this quiet (on weekdays) touristy fishing port it was easy to peddle around choosing a lunch locale. I was all for a famous footlong hotdog near the boardwalk while my wife was insistent we should have a coffee and pastry in a "French Bistro". I couldn't put up an argument, so off we went. Except it was closed. Darn. Footlong it is then, right? Nope. Being a fry-lover she remembered the chip wagon we passed coming through town. Dorothy's Delicious Homemade Fries food truck didn't disappoint. We gave them ten forks out of ten for everything except atmosphere. Although the picnic tables and umbrellas are brand spanking new and charming, sitting in a parking lot watching folks drive in to the town laundromat and doggy spa wasn't lovely. But the fries were still worth the visit. Next time I'll need try paddling the river.
