Jim,
I had a fellow buy some of my old woodworking machinery a few years ago for some sort of co-op shop, never found out if he made a go of it.
Did you join that shop in your photos? How does it work? It looks to be a great space.
Yes I'm in ! The past few months, I've been helping in a smaller part, than others, to get this up and going.
A local businessman, bought the building. It needed a lot of work ! He has always wanted something like this !
We are a Non profit club, but we will be responsible to pay the bills.
He is renting the office, and another part out. So he has income paying for it. He also sold some extra lots, that came with the deal, and donated that money for renovations, and tools ! Pretty generous !!!
A retired Middle School Teacher, and a Retired Power Company employee, are the two in charge. I and several others put in time to Spruce up the place, Wednesday nights, and Saturday mornings. We have, at least 5,800 square ft. of work space.
The shop teacher Knows his stuff, and we have some great equipment. They purchased a new Band saw, table saw, and surface planer, some quality tools from an estate, and some have been donated.
Club Memberships are $300 per year. The Shop teacher will be holding classes I'm also building a canoe, to be raffled off. The one above.
This is all new to us, and I'm sure there will be problems, but so far, it's going Great
In a way? It's kind of like a Public Golf Course, or YMCA ! Except one of the intents, is to build things for the Community !
