I think $12 for clear rift sawn or quarter sawn spruce is actually not a bat price, if it Board feet, if it is linear feet then it is quite expensive. That said, I've been helping a friend on his mill, and we mill Sitka spruce exclusively, and to get good clear wood is a lot of work and you need to go through a lots of logs, and I,m talking 30 plus inches log here! I have a new appreciation for clear spruce!! I think scarfing gunnels material together is not a bat idea, especially if it is well done.
I'm still on the look out for long clear stuff my self, but It might take a bit of time to get enough to be worth wile!!
