    Show me your rack :)

Rippy, I have always heard that the cab and rear end of a pickup will move differently (flex?), and having a canoe or kayak supported and tied down like you show in your photo is not so good for the boat. Have you noticed any issues? Has anyone else ever heard this? Regards, Dave

    More on Royalex

At work we have one Royalex canoe left for sale. It's an OT Camper 16 in dark green (spruce). Just sold the last Penobscot 17 only a week ago. They didn't exactly "fly off the shelf ".

    Important Places

This film spoke to me! Even though it centers on a Grand canyon raft trip I can relate it to my canoe tripping: a son and a father, aging, remembering what is important, getting out to the important places., nature. See what you think! https://vimeo.com/126544483 Enjoy, Dave

    Greetings from New Jersey

You landed in the right place here!! A lot can be learned from looking at old posts. There is a lot of good info and stories. There are a lot of opinions here and favorite ways of doing things that don't work for everyone. That's what makes this forum so great: the diversity of methods...

    SUP Tripping: Realistic or Ridiculous?

Sups have a tracking fin that is 8 to 12 inches long so they draw more than a canoe. The whitewater sup fins can be flexible so they bend when whacking a rock. The hard fins are sharp and can easily draw blood.

Solo Canoe - Length Verses Hull Speed

As Kim states the POTENTIAL hull speed of a displacement hull is a function of the square root of the waterline length. For general canoe lengths that isn't a lot. The wetted surface area (drag)( goes up for a longer canoe if all other dimensions are the same and that takes more horsepower ( you...

The Boundary Waters Expo, June 12-14 2015

Quinn, I'm sure you've heard about Dave and Amy Freeman's canoe trip from Ely to Washington, D.C. last year collecting signatures on the canoe to help stop the mining initiatives that threaten the Boundary Waters. Right now the canoe is in my care here in Maryland while it waits for the next...

    Suggestions on a Solo Canoe?

I have a Wenonah Wilderness (32 lbs) that I trip with. I like it a lot. I made a removable yoke for it which is a bit of a pain if you have a lot of portages, but you get used to it. If I have just a small pack I usually shoulder carry it on day trips and leave the yoke behind. It has more...

    Car Roof Rack

I have been using Yakima rack systems for 25 years. Never had a problem. They are engineered to do the job. I have overloaded the bars on occasion (by a lot!) and put slight dimples in the roof but since I consider my vehicle to be just another canoe accessory, I don't really care. The front...

Great film about canoeing in the 50's

I guess you'd be in really big trouble then if your aluminum canoe ever sank in a BWCA lake!!

    Site reached usage allotment,

Some of us have been here since Willis ran things and there was hardly any activity at all. Robin stepped up and save it after Willis's departure. We have watched it get fine tuned and grow under Robin's guidance. We really have no idea how much agony Robin goes through and how much hard work he...

Canoe pants: RailRiders has 25% off everything sale until 3/16

I 've been wearing Rail Riders for about 6 years now. For me they have replaced denim jeans. Love them for canoeing and everyday wear. The fleece lined ones were great this winter. Wore them everyday.
