Wow! Thanks for posting. I'm fascinated that someone is building paddles from split wood.

Free: Water and Sky by Alan Kesselheim

I accidentally ordered two copies of this book. I will gladly pass one copy along to someone else. Both are well-used paperbacks, but not torn up or unreadable. PM me.

New tents: they all have too much inner screens

Thank you Marten, I was looking at those tarptents. They seem to have quite an understanding and ability to sort of personalize the tents to the buyers' needs. It wasn't clear to me if the mesh doors could be closed with something solid besides the outer fly. Except for that, they look like...

New tents: they all have too much inner screens

Thank you, Patrick. I understand the problems with solid wall tents and condensation, etc. I've been doing this for more than 40 years. This obsession with mesh walls is fairly recent, I think. I am really too cold in a tent that has so much air circulation. I need to be able to close up the...

New tents: they all have too much inner screens

The door is solid mesh. No way to close it on the tent as far as I can see. I have been looking at 3 and 4 season tents. Yes, some have half height solid, but I haven't seen any that are all solid.

New tents: they all have too much inner screens

Something happened to tent design when I wasn't looking and I don't much like it. Somehow all the walls of the tent, instead of being fabric, are mostly mesh screens. I have tried these tents and can't sleep in them. Even with the fly on tight, a sharp wind whistles right into the tent and...

    Web Yoke or Strap Yoke

I've been using Plan B with reasonable success with my Colden DF. The web strap on the Mohawk is not at the seat like your Wenona is.

Northwest Passage 2000 mile kayak attempt

I've deleted my post. I just thought it was funny. It caught me actually trying to think if 1883 was possible.

    Luxuries for a broke back

For my trip last year, I asked the forum a version of this question, ie. what would you leave behind. I was trying to lighten the load so that this old lady could still do the portages. That version is still on the forum somewhere. You have framed your question better. I got replies telling me...

Northwest Passage 2000 mile kayak attempt

Godspeed to the travelers. I hope it is challenging but not life threatening. I'm a big Stan Rogers fan, singing along to NWP and others. A sad day when his plane went down.

Smoke headed your way for tomorrow?

I listen to a Chicago radio station and they are saying the air is just plain dangerous to breathe and not to go outside.

Paddling you've done outside of the USA and Canada

I had a weeklong paddling trip in Sweden in an area that turned out resembling the Canadian Shield. Did a day trip in France on the Gardon River, ending at the Pont du Gard, which I found quite impressive. A walk into the back country around the area unintentionally brought us to remains of the...
