I think it was reading Lost in the Barrens when I was quite young.

Grandpa Paddler, is this the same Dick Burns, the United Methodist pastor, from Western Pennsylvania? If so, I spent many many days with him canoeing, hiking, camping, hunting, and horseback riding during my youth. His son Ricky and I were close friends as were Dick and my father. Great memories.
