I was reading a survivalists forum today, one of the threads there was "What was your prep today?" which is kinda like the thread we have going about what we're doing in our shops. There's a lot of non-shop Preps we do, so what 'Preps' do you do today to get yourself ready for the up coming season of canoeing, food preps, gear preps/purchase/researched, backcountry information you read about...etc.

I put 2 coats of wax on my Fjall Raven pants. I used a heat gun to set the wax with very little change to the look of the pants.

What did you do?

S-glass and dynel added to the blade edges of the paddle I'm making.

Looking at tents. Always seem to be looking at tents lately. So confusing trying to figure out what I need/want. About ready to say screw it and stick with what I've got for the time being.

I think someone spilled some paint on your new boat, Canot. Discount for the lack of seats as well? You know that is like, umm, a chick boat right?

Millbrook Boats is about 1/2 hour north of me, I haven't gone up to check them out yet.

My daughter pick the colour since she will be paddling it with me most of the time!! As for seat, there is 2 big chunk of foam that will come with it for me to make pedestal, hip blocks and knee block so that way it is the way I want... It will have triple outfitting so I can use it tandem or solo.

The model is the Prowler, it should be here end of april... the layup is something like that "the standard 2 S, 2 K with 2 S and 2 K and a 20 oz carbon waterline. Plus 2 more S and 2 more Kev.. " if that make any sense... I thrust that guy he knows what he's doing regarding ww boats and racing boats!! I think it come in at 45lbs... Super heavy compare to the usual layup he does, but he wanted me to have a solid boat and for 15' canoe, it is still lighter than most plastic one that are way shorter!!

As for the graphic, it is under the layers of S glass, so it will never ware off or fade!!

Worked on finalizing my best Google Earth route on the Yukon River in preparation for the Yukon River Quest canoe race in June. Updating my waypoint arrival time prediction spreadsheet for my pit crew. It is all a long and involved process

You can be sure I would have been to his shop many time if I was only 1/2hr drive from John! In my book is the best boat builder there is and the cheapest price out there with the ultimate best customer service there is!! And we like the same beer!!

Looking at various satellite photos and maps for features worth checking out close to home but still off the beaten path... features like old roads, cliffs, creeks. The resolution of satellite photos has improved to the point now where even the large branches on poplars and birches are visible. I had some old points of interest identified on top maps but checking them now with the high resolution sat photos, some of them don't look all that promising. But others have appeared, so now there are new places on the list.

The different reality on the ground can be surprising once these promising hotspots are actually visited but I'm hoping that the chances of finding something good out there will improve. In the past, it's been about 50-50... sometimes a nice discovery, other times the decision made to go there turned out to be a big mistake. Actually maybe there are no real mistakes, just discoveries... like I've discovered that I'll never want to go there again. Holy crap, what was I thinking spending so much energy trying to get to that god-forsaken spot... never again. Thank God I did that on my own, solo, and didn't make anybody else go through that torture trip.

I'm always sort of amazed at how people can whip through a canoe route and leave so much good stuff off to the side unseen. Yeah, the good stuff, where's the good stuff.

I don't paddle canoes with that much Rocker. If you make it this way and want to see him, I can put you up.
