It's been boated for 220 years, but I don't think I could paddle it. My acrophobia kicks in just watching.

I have paddled over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and the intimidation factor is huge. I'm not usually acrophobic but found myself wondering what the best reaction might be if it suddenly started to leak significantly. Llangollen in Wales is one of my favorite places to paddle. The canal and river mean that you never need to arrange a shuttle. Wetsuits and life jackets are standard attire in the pubs near the canal there. The link below describes a similar canal loop in Maine, (without the aqueduct or pubs).

Looks like an interesting paddle but I'm pretty sure I couldn't convince my wife to join me on it. I paddle a lot of sections of the Erie Canal but there's nothing like this along the sections I travel. I think the closed-in feeling of this is what would get to my wife. Unlike the canal where she loves to both paddle and bike.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

Pub paddling is a great tradition in Britain that doesn't appear to have been replicated in North America. The video below has more details.

I have done pub paddling on the Milwaukee Rv in downtown Milwaukee. There are at least 3 microbreweries on the river as well a number of pubs. It is popular with power boaters since the breweries have dock space on the river. I have always done it during weekdays since the river is busy with powerboats on the weekends.
