Mike,

Your retirement escapades and jocular reporting thereof give many of us a needed respite from the chores of living in the north. The mercury may rise above freezing today so I might work on my tan while shoveling the driveway.

Could the weird "Blu-blu" warble have come from the Fish Crow? We don't have them here so I'm not very familiar with their vocalizations. Most of my Corvus conversations are deep baritone croaks with Ravens.

Thanks for reporting.

That was my thought, but I doubt my ability to differentiate the slight beak and body size variation. American crows appear to have dozens of different vocalizations beyond the typical Caw.

This requires future study. I’ll have to go back next winter.

I just disturbed a murder of crows this morning, as I slowly drove by them. I assumed they were huddled around roadside carrion, but no, they were just hanging out in the sun. Or maybe there was a funeral going on (don't laugh, apparently they do gather near a fallen one and sit in silence for a time).
You might be returning to old friends Mike. It seems crows can recognize individual faces. http://www.cbc.ca/player/Shows/Shows/The+Nature+of+Things/2009-10/ID/1385855962/ Hanging out in a hammock, catching up with the local gossip amongst friends sounds pretty good to me. Thanks for the crows.net link, it looks like a gem. I have much to learn.
