This winter my canoe partner was was in desperate need of some 'Retail Therapy' and purchased a Kevlar Souris River Prospector 16. Last week the SR Loop Trailer came thru NY and we met it at St Regis Outfitters. They have a nice store as well and we both indulged in a bit more therapy waiting for Wayne to show up with the trailer.

Middle Red

From there we headed out to Little Clear Pond where we met these 4 guys who had just graduated from College. The green canoe had a hole in it, they had broken a paddle shortly after starting and of course no spare. The derelict in the back was a white water canoe covered in mold and a broken sit. But with two boxes of wine, a 12pack of PBR, and a half gallon of Black Velvet life was good. Oh ya the guy with the tent was a no show.

You got to love those first carries of a trip

The boys went to the left, we opted for the right in St Regis pond and settled onto the island.

Rib Eye and Asparagus for supper, I donated some of my bacon

In the morning we had the 'Big Breakfast' which slowed us up.

The Kelly Kettle worked great and should be a lot of fun to cook with in Algonquin this summer.

The biggest surprise of the trip was finding Chaga growing on a Beech tree.

The woods along the 3/4 mile carry out were full of Trout Lily, but we were a week too early

A few of the ADK High Peaks, not quite the Yukon.

But then there was the Ski Jumps at Lake Placid.

We go to try all our new equipment and winter mods. We had a great little two day trip and a great new addition to the fleet.

Nice! Beautiful boat. Wondered what that bottle was with the flames coming out in that picture. I had a bit of "therapy" last night also. I'm sure those college guys figured out how to get about with all those beverages. Be well.

Nice little trip (the college boys all too common an experience up there, even if they are in a good mood and well equipped)...and good looking trip therapy chow you all enjoyed. Nice boat too! Have been tempted many times over the years by those Kelly Kettles...always something else at the top of the list.

How were the black flies? We were doing the Essex Chain and the Chain Drain last weekend and the black flies were swarming and biting, but certainly I've seen it worse.
Did you stay on St Regis or zip around to the other ponds too?
Oh, and I see your Kelly is a new one, the vintage models used real cork stoppers. They can't be beat for fast water boiling, and no need to carry fuel!!
Nice Photos, BTW.

Black flies weren't bad, mostly swarming a few bitting.

We did stay on St Regis Pond, carried over to Green then up as far as Bear Pond, and then back downed. We took the longer carry out of Green back to Little Clear.

We were pleasantly surprised how fast it boiled water. This trip is was an oversized coffee maker. In Algonquin it will get a lot more use. I bought a second fire base for the hobo stove so we can cook, and heat water wo/having the pot sitting on top of the KK.

Did a lot the same trip last fall except went in and out via Little clear. Thought that broken cart looked farmiliar. Did you camp on the point on St regis where I did? Looks like it.

We also went in and out of LCP, we did the carry to the west going out and the one from Green coming back. We sent the boys straight out to the Lean To, at site #3, and we hooked around the point and ended up on the Island at site #10. It's a nice little chain of ponds, we may have to go back next year for a longer stay.

Sweeper, you most likely met my daughter when you were at SRCO. Anyone else that stops in the store tell her her dad says hi.

I just talked with Sarah the other day when I ordered some of their plastic seat backs. Nice little town, a few too many empty stores, but a nice setting.

Great find on the chaga. While you'll usually find it on yellow birch, I've also found it on maple trees down in the Catskills of NYS. The beech is a new one on me so I'll be looking for it on that in the future.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.
