Okay, where did I leave off?

Monday night was uneventful, after the early pizza dinner, the snow came in and the wind would not let up. We went to bed before dark after a day of drinking beers around the campfire. Tuesday morning was even colder and we broke out of the tent before 0600 with the loons AND Canada Geese making one heck of a racket. Erik made a fire while I got coffee and breakfast ready. We agreed that today, since the wind has calmed. It was one of the prettiest mornings I've had up there sans sunshine.

We paddled out and around the lake, fished some more but no takers, well, in season ones anyways, lots of "green trout". Then we turned around and headed back to Hitchens Pond for the next two nights. We arrived at the upper dam to find that the state is planning some more repairs up there. Stakes in the ground and blue spray-painted outlines on both sides or the outlet. Camp was set up on #7 as its set back from the water and the wind was picking back up. Snow again Tuesday afternoon. At this point I was simply tired of taking photos of my brother and I sitting under a tarp watching snow. The sleeping bags called early again.

good deal with the pics now! Thanks, I enjoyed them. Always fun to see someplace you've been seen through someone else's eye's (or camera lens)

Wednesday morning. Same old same old. Coffee and oatmeal for breakfast and the question of why we weren't in a hotel yet. The weather is due to turn around and it started to. We did some trolling on the pond with no luck. The bugs were not an issue at all for this entire trip. The beaver seem to have rebounded. The old road bed at site 8 is almost completely submerged. Today our goal was to drink up the last of our refreshments and prepare for departure. It was the latest night of the trip. Thursday morning was still cold but it warmed up quickly and the sun stayed out. We packed up camp and paddled the last little bit and headed home. It was a good story telling type of trip. "Come heck or high water, we are going" We dubbed this one the Snowman Trip.

Sounded like some good conversations were shared being weather bound.
Cold beer, campfire, cigars, and 2 brothers. Memories being made.
Curious about your green cigar holder?

Jason,
That photo that you titled "wow" is, uhmmm...Wow!!
We're talking calendar worthy. In a few years, this will have been one of the coolest trips you've ever done!
The trips with the most adventure (adversity?) are the ones you remember the best.
Photos are great, thanks for hanging in there and providing me (and everyone else) with a vicarious trip.

It works well.
My brother and I had a ball, thanks for the reply.

Stripperguy,
Yes ... adversity. It was a fun trip. We already enjoy the memory more than the trip! This isn't the first snow or the coldest its been in May on a canoe trip though, that didn't make this one any easier though. Well, easier isn't the right word, experience has taught us what works and what don't when it gets cold and ugly... how about comfy. Lol.

Thanks for the kind words and patience with my computer "skills". I'm glad you guys enjoyed the brief report.

Jason

wow is right, that pic and a couple of the others are post card worthy. As far as the weather, at least you guys were prepared. In all my years I can't remember a time when we brought too much beer. :)
