Refurbishing Old Cane Seats?

I love learning things here, and have to ask. Conk, in cabinetry what are stiles?

Stiles would be the vertical sides of a panel door, as well as the vertical bits of the cabinet face frame. All the horizontal members would be the rails. A five-piece door would consist of two stiles, a top and bottom rail and of course, a panel.
Like a subway or stadium turnstile, those ladder thingies over a fence are both a gateway through a barrier. I have always called the fence thingies "coops". I live in horse country where all the horsey people jump over fences at wooden things they call a coop.

Conk, I am near the heart of Maryland’s foxhunting and Steeplechase country and I’d never heard that “Coop” terminology.

Of course here in Mason-Dixon country we don’t jump over a winky coop that a lame Shetland Pony could clear, we jump over real fences. Jockey’s view starting at 6:00

The owners and amateur jockeys all come from Maryland’s upper-crust. The spectators lining the hills, despite parking passes starting at $40, not so much.

Stuff as many people and as much booze as possible in a vehicle. Get absolutely blotto watching from the hillsides, hoping to see a wreck. The NASCAR crowd meets the horse racing elite.

The Blue Bloods are not amused with this, but I am. It is the same crowd that attends Pimlico for the second leg of the Triple Crown Preakness, with the same sense of decorum.

Some of those hurled cans are unopened full. Such a waste of beer.

On the opening day of our local hunt, the hounds are paraded down the village main street. Being a college town, I wonder how it is that a devious student has never thought to tape a musk-laden kotex to the bottom of their shoe and make a late night stroll off Main Street and through the campus. Perhaps students today aren’t as enterprising we were.

You will notice that all of the huntsmen are dressed in blue. Here in the Genesee Valley we are all patriots and would never think of wearing a red coat.

Some decades ago I read an article about fox hunt disrupters in Great Britain. They dragged a rag soaked in (IIRC) aniseed oil or fox urine to create daunting and comical-result fox hunt trails as a way of protest.

How about it Conk, you could drag some Code Blue through town for the blue dressed huntsmen.

I am surprised that the Maryland guys aren’t dressed in Confederate Grey. Our State song is Maryland, My Maryland, which includes lyrics that refer to President Lincoln as "the tyrant", "the despot", and "the Vandal", and to the Union as "Northern scum", as well as referring to the phrase "Sic semper tyrannis

South of the Mason-Dixon Line, eh?

Hey Mike, I just now came across this post which somehow missed when searching the site earlier for "cane". Still a bit befuddled with the mechanics of the site so have sent a couple questions to the webmaster. Anyway, hopefully attached here is a link to my recent post on re-caning. I found it to be kinda fun!
