Portable Water Filtration & Purification

I use the Katadyn BeFree filter bottle. I tried a few others but I like this one because its "bottle" is really a bag that rolls up tiny and weighs next to nothing (never hurts to have one extra water container) and the filter media is pretty open/accessible, making it easy to swish around in hot water to clean it a little. I don't know if that makes much of a difference but it gives me some peace of mind.

Depending on the trip, I use the MSR Miniworks, the Katadyn BeFree or my preferred system, the Platypus GravityWorks 4L Water Filter System (with additional reservoirs). With the Platypus system (and the extra reservoirs), I filter enough water for a few days upon arrival at the campsite.

I have my original grey waterworks, but that hasn’t been used in years (I even have a couple replacements for both the ceramic and pleated filters). I mainly use the platty gravity feed. It’s almost too easy after all the years of pumping.

I also keep a bottle of polar pur in the kitchen stuff as a back up. Never goes bad, always works when used correctly.
