BUT - it was just nice to look at. Since I always sit on the side of the boat while paddling, the resting place for my butt was always on the small piece of wood. And after a while that was quite painful.
So I modified the sit first. The seat became a bench.

THAT had worked well and the first paddling trips showed me that I was on the right track ...
As the first bench seat was only a “trial” and not particularly well made, I decided to build a new bench seat after a few more short paddling trips. This time in beautiful.
At the same time I had glued new anchor points in the canoe. These will help me to better secure my panniers in the boat for future white water passages.
