We have two stands of Jacks in NH. I've seen one of them and knew it was unique to the area as soon as I saw them, but it took a bit of research to ID them.
We hunted a stand of OG White Pines on Eagle Lake in Maine for a couple of years. I finally found them using Google Earth, they also stood out over the rest of the canopy even on the computer. They were supposed to be 130'er but we recorded only 122'. There are some 160'ers about 20 mins west of us. But they are little spindly things compared the ones on the Allagash.
Nothing beats the Red Woods of CA, its like walking thru a land of magical giants.
Keep digging, those big beautiful the trees are in every forest.
