opinions on PennYan canoe

I have always thought a seat like that might be a good idea. It would be interesting to try.

We had a similar manufactured sling seat. It was interesting to try, for several nope reasons.

Unless it was strung and hung tightly across the gunwales it was not at all comfortable. A good test would be to sit in one of those flexible rubber kiddie swings in an arse smashing U shape for a few hours.

Even when strung tight, for less hindquarters compression, it had no stability fore or aft. Being positioned that high with no stability was heck on the back and core muscles. Even the kids hated it.

Years ago I saw a slung kneeing thwart design. I do not remember the manufacturer, but as a strapin kneeling thwart it was far more effective than the slung seat.

The end attachments were not kindly to the gunwales, we used it in a couple of tandems and the gunwales still bear scars.

You probably had this one...it bites gunnels. I'm a kneeler and both designs work fine for kneeling but for sure you have to fiddle to get the strap tension just right. The sling design does not fit on all gunnel cross sections. Something permanent is still better, my 2 tandems have center seats which I prefer to a kneeling thwart.
