Fresh of the editing press. We ventured into the backcountry around Thanksgiving this year to find some ruffies, fish, and pictographs. This would be my fourth time through this park and certainly not the last. Joined by my father-in-law we portaged, hunted, and fished our way through some beautiful landscape. Hope you enjoy... ps. Moose sighting on the first day.

Nice video to watch this morning. I have been hot tenting it this deer season - loving it. Watching this video made me lonesome for hot tenting with a canoe. Great way to start my day.

Nice video, the birds look delicious. At 4:23 is that ghee? Homemade? Thanks for sharing your trip.
That is definitely ghee not homemade though. We just like the fact that it stays solid at room temperature. No worries of spilling it in the barrel. It's also a delicious substitute for olive oil or butter. Also just so that we didnt waste any parts of the birds we made a stock out of the carcass which we used preparing the stuffing. So good!

Second Monday in October is a more appropriate day for Thanksgiving than the fourth Thursday in November. A canoe trip that combines fishing and ruffed grouse is way better than American football and turkey. No canoeing here today -21°F. supposed to get down to -35° F. later today.
Thank you CanuckCanoot, for taking me along on your Thanksgiving trip, reminded me of some great canoe trips, that involved fly rods, a Campers Companion, Savage .22/20 gauge over/under, beautiful fall color and weather.

Thanks much for contributing that nicely edited trip video. What model Nova Craft is the canoe? I have a NC Bob Special in the Aramid Lite layup. Since I was unfamiliar as to where Chiniguchi Waterway Provincial Park is, here's a location map for the info of others:

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

Bob B. that is definitely a nice setup for deer camp. All too often people are staying in hotels/motels or cabins anymore. Nice to see a traditional camp setup. It's been awhile since I was at deer camp. Wingshooting is definitely my jam. Heading for pheasants Saturday.

Boreal Birch yeah October Thanksgiving is one of a short list of things Canada got right. -35f sounds down right dangerous. Where is this at? As for the .22 over 20 gauge I have been meaning to handle one but you seldom see them except for on the used market and they command more then I'm willing to pay for a utility gun. If I'm going to spend a bit may as well be a nice double.

Glenn thanks for the warm welcome. I will be sure to spend sometime on my profile page. As for the Nova Craft it is a PAL in tough stuff. Such a nicely balanced craft its almost a joy to carry on those mile long portage, almost.

Anyways thanks for watching. Looking forward to the winter pheasant hunting and planning next year's trips.

- Cheers Steve

CC Steve…..
I live in interior Alaska, -35°F or colder are common low temperatures this far North during the short dark days of winter. No wind and low humidity make it better than it sounds.
I have a couple of nice double barrel side by side shotguns. AYA 16 gauge, Ugartechea 20 gauge for when I am strictly bird hunting. The .22/20 is for mixed bag camp meat hunting, on fall canoe trips that are mostly fishing oriented. The shotgun barrel shoots a slug to same point of aim as the .22, with the receiver sight. With it’s short barrels, when taken down, fits into a #3 Duluth pack compactly, does not stick out, so it doesn’t get caught up on the canoe or trees on overgrown portage trails. This combination gun is also rugged and dependable, no pretty wood to get scratched, dented or buggered up.

Really enjoyed that video, and I don't normally stick it out for the whole thing, but I'm a sucker for grouse hunting on a canoe trip. Great job!
