I need to fill a void in our stuff bag selection. Something less voluminous than a full-on sleeping bag sack and bigger than a too small 6 inch dia x 10 inch tall ditty bag.

Not water-proof or even water resistant. Not compression bag strapped. Just an inexpensive, breathable nylon drawstring stuff sack, with at least an easily hand-stuffable 8 or 9 inch diameter, maybe 12 to 14 inches tall.

Goldilocks and the stuff bags. That one was too small…… That one was too big….That one was just about right sized, but I couldn’t actually get my hand inside to stuff anything.

Sewing machines seem to be going for about $10 at local auctions. A non-waterproof stuff sack is about as easy as it gets. If anyone should be sewing their own stuff it's you Mike. Just do it.

fat chance. About the same odds as Mem abhorring Bud Lite.

Granit Gear make a whole selection of stuffsacks with drawstrings or zippers. We have been using the sil-nylon zipper sacks for our clothes for many years. I like the easy access of the side zipper. They are not waterproof so we amalgamate a series of stuff sacks within a larger dry bag.

If you really decide that nothing meets your requirements I will happily sew some up to any size you would like.

The first order of business is to figure out exactly what size that unicorn stuff bag actually is.

Apologies to (I am sure better quality) small shop stuff bag makers, but the cheapo Outdoor Products 3-pack of ditty bags (4x9. 11x5, 6x13) take care of the small stuff for fiver.

It is that next size up that I can’t seem to find; 7 or 8 inch diameter wise, so I can get my hand and a wad of material down inside when stuffing, but still smaller/shorter than a general purpose/sleeping bag stuff sack.

Truer words were never spoken. I regret not paying attention (being interested) when my father, who had worked as a sail maker and always had serious sewing machines, tried to show me how to use one.

We have an old Kenmore 4-Stich machine in the house, which goes frustratingly cattywampus even when my wife, who knows how to machine sew, starts using it. That alone is enough to dissuade me from even trying.

Knowing how to competently use a sewing machine would be incredibly advantageous for the just-so gear freak in me, but the older I get the less I like machines. And there is even less chance of me hand-stitching a nylon stuff bag.

No immediate worries, I found a couple of old mid-sized stuff bags in storage that met my need, but even switching a few things around that was the last of the mid-sized unicorn stuff bags.

I have a couple close to that size, but they came with travel beds for my dog
