This fall as been a bit short on time for hunting trips, I usually do to trips for moose, on in august and one in mid september... This year it didn't happen for many reason but the main reason was I was working:rolleyes:.

But this past weekend, we decided that we would go spend a few days on a series of lake south of town and see what we could find. So we packed every thing friday, snow trekker tent and stove, the new wanigan and all the rest to make for a great camping trip. 2 canoes for the 3 of us( four with the dog) and our good friends and there 3 kids( same that did the Yukon river trip with us in june) came with us! It was a great trip but no moose other than a cow 2+ km away on a hill side!!

We had a ll kind of weather, sun rain and a lot of wind, lots of wind!! but a good trip over all even if the freezer is still empty. Next year will be a lot different that is for sure!!

The wanigan worked awesome! I will build an other one as food box cause I'm fed up with barrels. So much easier to organize, to carry, to place in the canoe, to sit on, to climb on, to look at etc etc....

Again, our 7 years old daughter made us happy to do great work on land and in the canoe, today wasn't an easy paddle out with super strong head wind, and she worked really hard to help her mom making it back to the take out. I was soloing, and when I stopped, I would go back where I came from in no time!!

Cheers
p.s. I don'T know why, but the pictures didn't load in the order I wanted....

Great looking trip! How were you planning to get your moose out, you guys looked pretty packed. I'm probably going out again this weekend, are you planning on going again?

Too bad you couldn't get more time for the moose hunt, but it's nice to see you combine it with a family trip, the wood stove must have made for a comfy tent.

I love this picture, I need a road trip!

Great looking trip. Scenery is just stunning. I think I'd hurt my neck twisting around to take in the panoramic view.

Your hard working daughter did a great job. My 7 year old son thinks he's a tough guy because he has the biggest backpack in his class. I'm going to show him this picture tonight!

Also liked your tree shelf/table...when did you make one?

Mem, usually, 2 canoes 2 guys, gear for 10 days, and you can still fit a moose! so that is one canoe, the other one look just the same.
As for going back, we are running out of time since I start an other contract today, ice is starting to form on lakes... But I will certainly go for day trip on weekends or maybe even over night.... We have also bison we den go after all winter and caribou for a bit longer in the fall!

Robin, if you ever come by our way, make sure you let me know!!

Murat, I did that table last year for our moose hunting trip!! It work ok, a bit on the small size for a family!!

How hard is it to get a moose tag in the Yukon. My big 20 footer sure would be a good moose canoe up there!

As easy as walking in and paying your $15(as a resident of course) you buy your permit for $10 and then it is $5 for most of the tags, moose, caribou, black bear... Sheep and Goats are $10 as well as bison and elk, Grizzly is $25 ( I don't hunt bears, but I take my tags just in case... It make life easier!!)
I really like the 2 canoes deal. But my dream canoe would be a Kildonan Timber Cruiser, that would house a moose and all the gear for 2 guys for 10 days... One day Douglas Ingram will have me over to build one with him!!

Best of luck with the new contract but, more importantly, getting back out for your moose. Here in central NYS the prediction is for some snow this weekend so the formation of ice for us might not be too far behind as well; although ours is more likely to melt than yours probably will be.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

Wow, so there is no draw or anything? You just walk in and buy your tag? Does the tag cover cow, bull or calf? Sounds like i gotta move to the Yukon!

LOL.... Some area are under lottery, but most are open! Just bull no cow or calf( unless the calf have balls, then it is good to go!!)

You live in an awesome place! Not sure I could convince my wife, but just looked up teaching salaries in the Yukon, nothing to sneeze at! And everyone get's a bull tag! Holy Moly!

lol. My wife is a teacher, outdoor ed teacher... With 15 year experience and 5 or 6 years of schooling.

Life up here is good, but not real easy. long winters, short summers, but life us good! It is not like it use to be when I moved up here in 97, it changed a lot, less real people, more fake people moving up here and moving there city life style with them. Ho well,, maybe the economy will keep going down and most will leave and it will be back like it was!!
