It's National Pet Day

Gracie got a boat ride on a small local lake. She's still a beginner and today we flushed out several geese at very close range and she stayed in the boat (with strong encouragement and gentle restraint). For Gracie geese are right up there with squirrels for excitement.

We both like it when you can see the bottom.

Great picture! Almost nothing warms my heart more than seeing a beagle enjoying a canoe ride. It brings back fond memories of the many wonderful hours I spent 45 years ago in my first canoe with my two beloved, hyperactive but attentive, beagles. After being petless for 30 years I inherited two cats when my Mother passed away. One of them was very interested in the canoes when they were on shore so one day I threw him in and took him for a ride. This was the end of last season and he hasn't been out since. I'm curious to see if this is something he can get used to.

Here's Sadie the day after I got her as a rescue. She took to the canoe immediately and we had many happy years paddling and tripping. She's currently 16 years old still going strong. Well, maybe not strong but she's still going.
