Hello, I'm new to the forum. Basically a beginner when it comes to canoes. Trying to find out if anyone has any knowledge or info about the canoe. Under the bad paint job from the previous owner I can make out dolphin chief. But this one has a square stern. Through my research I can't find where they made one like this. Any knowledge or info about the canoe would be greatly appreciated.

It's a Dolphin! Possibly made in Manitoba, we had a dolphin canoe company up here. Man those are ugly boats. We know of an abandoned dolphin on port #6 on the Wanipigow River up here and it is one ugly heavy boat. It has glass sponsons and if you look straight on from the bow it looks like a bottle-nose dolphin.

Welcome Songdog.. Its nice to have you.. I hope you have a trailer for that beast.. There is one around here permanently moored to a dock and mostly full of water and in season algae. I don't know where it was made but it is indeed a Dolphin without the grace.

Sorry to welcome you with negativity.. but humor.. That's one fuggly boat. So is the obstruction here. I hope you can figure out a way to mount a motor and actually use the thing. Seems like you are young and strong.. Remember this boat is just a start. Most canoes weight less than half of that.

Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder !

I'll agree ! It's not a Marilyn Monroe, by Today's standards. But if it floats from point A to point B, it has it's own kind of Beauty !

I've never seen one, but I have seen the bow profile on a few, and will look closer at the next one I come across !

Thanks for the info!!!! I know its a beast, but purchased it extremely cheap $25. So I'm going to get it fixed up and put it to use anyways.

The transom wood looks kinda toasty. Fix it up, stick a little motor on it and have a ball. It could be the best 25 bucks you ever spent, especially if it leads you down the canoe path.

It may be the skewed photo perspective, but what is the distance between the transom and the stern seat? That looks like a really long throttle arm would be required.

But it made a wonderful camp table.. I wonder if the two companies were related.. The Manitoba one is in pretty good shape..relatively

yes, it just needs some glass repair to re-float it but it is at port 6 and I really wouldn't want to have to portage it up to Wallace Lake.

A few years ago Christy was again using it as a table and had a naptha fire on it.

Ok Songdog, that one oozes character. A slick paint job and you will be the envy of all who cannot wrangle a ride in her.

YC...that ummm, boat, only looks fairly good cuz it was raining and made it shiny and clean. In actual fact it has not aged gracefully and the fire hastened that. It is still a pretty useful table though.
