About the time I think I have it down pat, epoxy throws one at me !

Two years ago, while glassing a hull in the middle of Winter, in a Heated shop, I experienced this Ghosting, from when I set a near empty cup of mixed resin, upside down, on a hull, and left it alone as I rolled out another area. I turned to look, and this is what I got !

The carbon cloth made it look worse, in my eye.

The resin could have been ready to kick over, or it could have been the cooler temps. I never have this problem in the Summer !

Just sharing this, so others can avoid my mistake !

I'm getting lots of funky stuff right now, due to the cold weather. That's why they make rustoleum!

Funny ! I just painted a Carbon/Kevlar White Water composite, I built for a friend.

Boy, that Topside Rustoleum is a bugger to apply ! It is SOO thick ! I added some thinner. Next coat will get more thinner ! 30 - 40%.

Using a regular bristle brush.

It doesn't come out as smooth as Varnish !!!

I use a sponge roller and tip it off with a sponge brush. Goes on really smooth!

I may try that ! Pouring it from the can it seemed really thick !

It didn't want to spread, until I added thinner.

I'l give it a light sand, makes it easier to see where I have been.

Thanks !

If I had to guess I'd say the upside down resin cup saturated that portion of cloth heavier than the surrounding area.

Yes ! But I do the same thing in warmer weather, and did not have the Ghost rings appear.

Resin and surface temps control the absorbtion rate.

I'm thinking, if I had an Infrared heat source, this may not have happened .

That's kinda Spooky !

What caused the ridges in the epoxy ?

I think some type of contamination, probably acetone. Been working too much with vinyl ester which uses an actavater and is a lot easier to work with so I got careless.
