Free Genuine Old Town Rowing Seat

Genuine Old Town Fiberglass Rowing Seat, moves pivot point farther out from gunnels. Converts standard canoe (28 to 36 inch width) to a rower, oars not included, straps are missing. The ad is from a 1988 catalogue. Can't ship the thing, but if anyone has an interest maybe we can do handoffs. Hate to throw it out.

I suppose I should ask some follow-up questions - how long of an oar would go well with the rig?

Do you need to drill into gunnels to mount it, or install anything? Or would replacement straps get the job done?

Do you row forward or backwards with this rig?

PS - I'm not a free style guy either, but I've never tried it and am curious to learn more about functional freestyle for boat control in real world settings. I fully intend to leave the musical routines to others (with all respect to those that do it).

I've never used it, it came with a canoe I bought, so not much help. It appears to have mounted with straps, but if it were me, I would use clamps like the ones on a removable yoke.

The 1975 Old Town catalog suggested seven foot spoon oars with this rowing seat but that is really a personal preference. It was designed to be a friction fit so no drilling is required. However, clamps or straps can help since some rapid motions will cause the seat to shift. The straps with it are intended to hold the foot brace which may be missing in this example. This seat is commonly used for backward rowing as shown below from the 1975 catalog but that is another personal decision. Good luck,

M Clemens....I'm waffling if I'll actually acquire oars and use this thing, or if it'll just sit in my garage instead of yours. If there's another interested party out there, go with them! I'll keep thinking but don't wait on me. Thank you though!
