Free Boat Rehab

Well, it's a done deal. Finished it off last night and am pretty happy with the results. Goes to its new owner next weekend and since I've been sending pictures he's pretty excited to get his hands on it. Now it's time to drag that beat up old Mad River ME in for a rehab, that one is gonna take some time!

I forgot to mention that the finished weight was 43 pounds. Think I mentioned stripped down to bare hull it was 28#'s.

Much to my regret I needed all of those to hold the decks down without lifting in between. But in another week I won't have to look at them anymore. Me and making decks have a long history of struggles to get it right. If only I could master inlaid decks i wouldn't have to worry about that gawdish look! Maybe next build I'll get it right!

Kidding of course, the rebuild came out beautifully. You know how I like bright shiny things.

The dark top mounted decks on our rebuilt Independence each have six screws and finish washers and those decks are only 9” long.

Those are brass, and once they got some patina on them looked even better on the dark wood.
