Do you bring an ice chest or cooler?

For short trips, I have a small round cooler that was designed to nest inside my food barrel. I pack it with frozen food and eat as things thaw. For longer trips, larger soft-sided coolers seem to work well.

I usually bring my goats fresh, like still "baa-ing". Ultimate bear defence weapon, plus it will clear up your campsite of any weeds, and provide endless hours of amusement. When Ive had enough of their silly antics, I eat them.
I'd consider the same tactics with a horse. Not nearly as entertaining but more useful on a long portage. I will, however, need a larger canoe.

I'm usually solo, and always lazy... I hate double portaging, so it's just a food bag, and nothing perishable. I tend to go early spring/late fall anyway, when the weather's coolest without being cold, and that helps keep things like bacon, cheese, and alcohol cool.
