I got out for a nice little day trip with a friend the other day on the Cypress River in southern Manitoba. Wow. What a beautiful place. We should have done a through trip with a pickup on the Assiniboine....next time for that.
This is a lovely little river that winds through sandy hill country with lots of mature spruce. There are numerous swifts and class ones that make it a ton of fun. The river is only waist deep at best and ankle deep on the gravel beds.
We met up on the highway and took my car down into the river valley, parking at the bridge. We decided to go down river as far as we could and then come back. It was a ton of fun and really beautiful country. The return up the river was a bit harder with paddling, portaging, wading, lining and all manner ot things in between. The hip waders came in really handy again for this one.
Once back at the takeout we sorted the gear a bit and had a cook up with chili, grilled cheese sandwiches and some tea. Thats some good livin.
