What's your fav cookware for cooking over a fire?
I've always used an MSR Pocket Rocket canister stove and non-stick GSI cookware, but I'm thinking about trying some fire cooking, either over an open campfire or maybe a twig stove. I read up a bit, sounds like stainless steel or titanium are preferred - aluminum can get too hot? Personally I'm not going to trip with cast iron (I usually portage at some point).
Is a bail a must-have feature? Sounds like most folks balance on rocks and logs (or irons of some kind) and don't bother with a tripod, but maybe a bail is useful for pulling a pot off the fire anyway? Kettles vs open pots - which is more versatile? I'm likely to start with one item - I usually trip solo or with one other person, so a big kit for a group isn't too appealing.
Thanks!
