I was reading an old magazine article about beavers and was surprised to learn that they can be aggressive towards dogs. It mentioned a girl from Anchorage who's dog was swimming in a local lake and got attacked by two beavers. She had to take the dog to the vet where it needed $500.00 worth of stitches. The vet told her that he sees 20 to 30 cases like that each summer. I googled "beaver attacks on dogs" and there a lot of incidents, many back East in Pa. and New York.

I thought I would post this since a lot of you trip with dogs and might not be aware.

I've heard of story of beaver taking down dogs up here a few time... They are quite the powerful animal especially in the water...

I didn't know beavers would do this but I certainly know you don't want your dog in the water with a 'coon.

a couple of years ago a local paddler was attacked by a beaver.don't remember for sure, but i think it was rabid. even healthy wild animals are just that-wild. unpredictable.

It's a good reminder al. There's no shortage of YouTube videos showing beavers being aggressive, and at least around here in SW Michigan they are becoming more common.

A friend of mine was chased into the bed of his mini-truck by an aggressive beaver years ago. His description of the beastie always reminds me of this....

Sorry. Slow morning here.....

Thanks for the warning. I had a beaver pass under my canoe a couple seasons ago that was so big, it made me a little nervous just being that close to it.
