I have been a on and off again lurker on these pages thought I would sign up to ask a question now and then. I started canoe camping in the BWCA back in the 60's after reading some of Sig Olson's books. In the mid 70's the BWCA seemed crowded and I was worried I might starve to death on the wages I was making in the Iron mines (a job I took in order to be close to the BWCA). I moved to Alaska, something I had always wanted, along with having a dog team and living in a cabin. So I did all that, then got on with my life, which has been a good one. I landed a job with the Alaska Fish & Game. It was a job that never felt like work, some of the stuff we did is what people pay to do on vacation.
Anyhow I like traditional gear (canvas packs, Seliga canoes, real coffee etc.) fly tying and fly fishing for Arctic Grayling, bird hunting with my Gordon Setter, and Ice fishing.
I'm happy to be here.
