I'm headed out Monday for a week long vacation that doesn't involve working around the Humble Hovel for a change. Heading up to Lake Sysladobsis, ME where we'll base camp and do day trips, a loop trip, enjoy some adult beverages and just recouping from that hell called work. I won't be checking the site until I get back so new registrations will have to wait and I don't really worry about any bickering between members here as you all are a great crew who show tremendous respect to each other and the site! One of the big reasons I asked Robin to let me step in.

For some reason my pile of gear is growing by the hour! Bringing a 3 burner Coleman stove that is older than me, portage cart, big arse cooler with more food than I can eat, big chair, more beverages than I care to think about. I don't think I've had this much gear since the last time I based camped maybe 8-9 years ago! Best part is no phone, no internet! Late night paddles, hanging with the loons (I hope) and just relaxing!

Hope everyone gets a chance to wet a hull somewhere this week!

Where are you putting in? I am thinking of that area later in the year maybe early October after I recover some from surgery.

Glad to hear you're taking a much deserved canoe camp vacation Doug. A base camp plan sounds perfect. Break fast with the sun, drink with the stars and converse with the loons. Come back stronger.

And please a TR.. I camped the night before at a trailer and tent campground down the road. It was dark and spooky and no one there. There were seasonal trailers.. I would like to know if you can drive to a parking area near your basecamp.. I did visit that site..by canoe.. Look for lots of old boilers and stuff for the logging days.. It is on a snowmachine route.

Kim, There is a logging road in to a parking spot, free camping, big wide open area. There's a dam, Dobis Dam that connects W. Grand Lake to Lake Sysladobios, maybe the length of a couple football fields if I remember correctly, been a long time since I was there last. We did see the remnants of an old building, chimney, and yes it's on a snowmobile path. We had a NPMB Vous there years ago and there was room for at least 20 folks. Nice place and looking forward to going back.
