My beautiful Exped Venus 2 tent is speckled with tree sap. I tried getting it off with water and my fingernail with limited success. Anyone got a recipe for cleaning it off? Also, what's the best waterproof coating to use afterwards?

Hand sanitizer, booze or peanut butter
I prefer to not clean my tents. The various spots bring back good memories. I have a monster blood stain from a skeeter in my Hubba Hubba. Good trip.

Deep freeze.

Tree sap pops off far more easily when frozen. You may still have a little residue to deal with, but better than a glob of warm sticky goo.

Back when I was building log houses, doing a lot of peeling of green spruce logs. We had a jar of mayonnaise that we would use to removed the pitch from our hands. I wish I could give credit to the person that showed me this trick, but I have forgotten. After the mayo, you will have to wash the spot with Dawn soap to get the mayo remains and smell out.

Turpentine works well. Lacquer thinner is also good, or acetone. Use small amounts on a rag and then wash it off.

The pitch wouldn't hurt the waterproofing, I suppose. It's just a residue, after all my sponging and picking. Maybe I'll just do the YC thing and let it go. The dog vomit on the floor had to be addressed, however. That memory I can live without.

I still have pine resin on my backpack after I threw it down under a red pine, those aren't called Pinus resinosa for nothing. Still remember the campsite, scenic and sandy, very nice view..

As far as the dog barfing in the tent, maybe the dog doesn't like camping. Or maybe he drinks too much on camping trips, like mentioned on the litterbug thread. There are vids out there showing what happens although it isn't dogs that are doing the barfing. Not gonna show those... pigs, unspeakable, hideous.
