Good morning. I just purchased what I believe is a 16' wooden Great Canadian canoe. I am interested in finding out its age a general value. The serial number on the placard is 05055M85. Any help is appreciated. Dave

I would proudly paddle that boat. Similar to my Old Town Guide 18.
If I had my life to live over again I would have bought a wood and canvas canoe in my 20s instead of age 48.

There are no known serial number records available for Great Canadian canoes. The format of the serial number you provided doesn't exactly match the hull identification number format described at https://www.usps.org/national/safety/HIN/HIN.pdf but the "M85" probably means that it was manufactured in 1985. The first link below has a good summary of how to value wooden canoes. The link at https://www.woodencanoe.org/classifieds includes an assortment of similar canoes that are currently listed for sale. The second link below is a listing for a canoe that looks similar to yours.

It's a nice boat, I owned a Great Canadian previously and liked it.
Selling it may be challenging. Wood canoes in general seem to be in low demand right now. Many lovers of wood canoe don't want fiberglass on them, few buyers of synthetic canoes want a wooden hull. Yours is between two markets. Try it on the water, I think you'll like it. I also own a wood/fiberglass canoe, the one pictured in my profile.
