    Describe your seasons and climate

When we moved to WNY 30yrs ago, we were told, "..if you don't like the weather in western NY, wait 5 minutes 'cuz it will change." How true it is!!!

How Canoe Tripping saved my life....

I'm just sitting here nodding in agreement.. I often think of most (but not all) of the corporate world as a cesspool - the big chunks seem to rise to the top. Looking back, seems like the conievers and deceivers got payback in one form or another. Retirement is GREAT!!!:D:D:D

    Gas prices

Nearest gas station is 10 miles away. 10 miles south gas is $2.539. !0 miles north it's $2.879. Any explanations??? So... every 3-4 weeks I drive 23 miles west to the Seneca Indian Res. and fill my truck (+/- 25 gal) and 7 or 8 gas cans. Went last Tuesday and paid $1.799 and probably...

    legal requirements

Of the states listed for registration, the only one I am familiar with is Pennsylvania. Paddle craft do not require a 'registration'. As referenced, PFBC access areas do require a use permit from either PFBC or one of the Pa state parks. Both are easy to avoid.

    Hello from SE Ohio

Welcome Seth. Where in SE Ohio? I had a Pere Marquette until my wife said that to get another canoe I had to give one up. The PM went to one of my sons so it's still in the family.

    Shop Rant, missing tool

Generally, I can't find seldom used power tools. After searching the small work room and the entire garage, I move on to my sons' garages. BINGO!!! Son says, "That's not yours Dad. I've had that for 2 years." I says, "Yes you probably have had it that long, that's how long it's been since...

    New gasifier twig stove test

The fuel tab saucer with my stove will hold alcohol but it isn't very efficient. I haven't tried the tabs. I'm happy using twigs:D

Wood Harvesting Tools - Saws, Axes and Knives

Having little skill and no patience, my great uncle's really old hand tools are in a drawer only to come out to be admired while I marvel at the thought of the things he created. I have trouble using fancy power tools:o:o:o!

Wood Harvesting Tools - Saws, Axes and Knives

I do like having an evening fire. but... being old and somewhat lazy, I don't get excited about the processing of firewood. I like tripping with people who are willing to process what I collect. Most of my processing is small stuff for my wood gasifier stove but it doesn't provide much heat...

    Dog food options

When we had our Siberian we fed her Diamond High Energy for Sporting Dogs. Was about he only thing she would eat. Got it at Tractor Supply and a local feed and grain.

    Dog food options

Making sure my dog has enough dog food when I'm tripping is simple... I leave her at home with my wife. She only weighs 11.5 lbs (the dog, not my wife.) I have a PFD for the dog, but my wife hasn't yet allowed me to take her on even a day paddle.

    What's in your campfire?

Easy pass while hauling a canoe?

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In the Cherokee, I just pop it off and hold it out from under the canoe(s). It's a non issue with my double cab Sierra.
